Gateway Rallycross Facility Receives High Praise from ARX Superstars

(July 23) - The newest rallycross circuit in the United States and in the Americas Rallycross (ARX) schedule was run on for the first time just over a week ago at World Wide Technology Raceway and has been met by high praise from organizers and leading drivers.

For the first time ever, ARX held a double-header weekend at the ARX of Gateway where Subaru Motorsports USA took a win on each day with Australian driver Chris Atkinson and Sweden’s Patrik Sandell at the wheel of Subaru WRX STIs.

The racing at Gateway was fast and frantic, providing plenty of action for the fans at the venue and on the live broadcast. “The track has been absolutely awesome, it’s the most fun track in the series, even going back to the previous rallycross series in America, it’s so much fun with the fast dirt sections, it was such an awesome weekend,” said round three winner Sandell. “Thanks so much to the WWT Raceway and ARX organizers – I really hope to come back here next year.”

The new 0.7-mile 60% asphalt and 40% Midwestern dirt WWT Raceway rallycross course is the brainchild of owner Curtis Francois, who is more than happy with the result. “We couldn’t be more excited about Americas Rallycross at World Wide Technology Raceway,” he said. “It’s a thrill to see the guys running on a track that I dreamed up four years ago, we were super excited to see the guys out there doing their thing, it’s super exciting for to have something brand new for the region.”

Even though reining ARX Champion and 2019 points leader Scott Speed didn’t have the perfect weekend at Gateway, and only finished on the podium once, he’s excited by the new tracks that have been introduced to the sport in America, following the debut of the Mid-Ohio Sports Course rallycross track for round one of ARX, where he took Subaru’s first win. “Now we have two great new tracks on our schedule. For sure from the layout standpoint this [Gateway] is the most fun track we’ve done in a long, long time, and I’m sure once they get a handle on the fine tuning we need to do to the dirt this will be the home for rallycross in the states, at least the one we look forward to most.”

Round 3 of the 2019 ARX Championship airs tomorrow night, Wednesday July 24 at 9:00 PM ET on CBSSN.
