Tanner Foust Keeps the Lead after Q4 over Speed and Arpin
Andretti Rallycross’ Tanner Foust has taken the first top qualifier position of the 2019 Americas Rallycross (ARX) Championship season at the Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio by earning his second fastest time of the weekend in Q4.
Q3 winner Scott Speed launched the Subaru Motorsports USA WRX STI off the pole in Q4 race two but ran deep and forced team mate Patrik Sandell wide into the loose dirt. Meanwhile, the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle driver Foust checked up early into the first turn and tucked inside to take the lead. He didn’t leave anything out on track and kept the advantage even after the joker laps to take the fastest time.
Foust will take the pole for semifinal 1, and will be joined on the front row by Subaru’s Chris Atkinson. In his first drive for Subaru, Speed takes pole for semifinal 2 and will be joined on the first row by Loenbro Motorsports’ Steve Arpin, the driver of the No.00 Ford Fiesta taking the win in Q4 race 1. The third Subaru of Sandell will also start in semifinal 2. Row 2 in semi-final 1 will be made up of Loenbro’s Travis PeCoy and Andretti’s Cabot Bigham, the two ARX Supercar freshmen having a fight throughout Q4 race 1, PeCoy coming out on top in the closing corners.
DirtFish Motorsports’ Fraser McConnell and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s Sage Karam set the fastest times in Q2 and Q3 of round 2 in ARX2, the official support category to Americas Rallycross. With two fastest times from the three qualifiers, McConnell takes top qualifier position, with DRR’s Cole Keatts in P2 overall and Karam in P3. JR Hildebrand completes the overall qualifying top four.
