Foust and Speed Separated by just a single point after Q3
Subaru Motorsports USA’s Scott Speed struck back from crashing out of Q2 at the Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio, round 1 of Americas Rallycross (ARX) with the fastest time in Q3 on Sunday morning
The reining ARX Champion took the best launch and the hole shot in race 1 of Q3 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Course and lead the race from the front to take the quickest time in the No.41 WRX STI. The fastest man from Q2 and day 1 leader, Andretti Rallycross’ Tanner Foust took the win in race 2 after a joker lap strategy battle with Subaru’s Chris Atkinson, but was over half a second slower than Speed at the top of the times.
Loenbro Motorsports’ Travis PeCoy took the best launch in race 2, before team mate Steve Arpin challenged for the lead with an over-under move in turn 1 and 2 but was forced out wide into the loose dirt and lost time. Foust continues to hold the top qualifier position with Q4 still to run, but Speed is just one point behind. Three Subaru’s filled the top 4 places in Q3, with Atkinson and Patrik Sandell P3 and P4, Atkinson also P3 overall after the three qualifiers so far.
In the ARX2 support category to Americas Rallycross, DirtFish Motorsports’ Fraser McConnell won Q1 race 1 and was the fastest driver in the second round of the series, in front of Dryer & Reinbold Racing’s JR Hildebrand on track and the time sheets. Round 1 winner, Buhl Sport’s Alex Keyes took the hole shot in race 2 and led until he was passed by DRR’s Cole Keatts after the joker laps had been taken. Sage Karam got involved in the fight for the lead but hit a tire stack at the final turn while trying an inside move and dropped to third in the race.
