A Success in Ohio, Americas Rallycross Debut
(June 14, 2019) – Fans, teams and championship partners heralded the Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio, the first round of the 2019 Americas Rallycross (ARX) season, a major success.
A great mixture of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course season ticket holders and young rallycross enthusiasts, along with tailgaters and weekend-long campers, packed the famous keyhole section of the circuit and made this inaugural summer classic an electric event.
“The Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio was a great event. We are thrilled to have the Championship fights end here in October,” said ARX Series Director, Jordan Martindale. “The Inaugural event featured one of our most competitive fields to date across ARX and ARX2. With Subaru Motorsports USA capturing their first victory in ARX along with Supercar rookie Travis PeCoy standing on the podium with his teammate Steve Arpin and witnessing the close battles in ARX2 amongst one of the most diverse fields was a great way to cap off a successful weekend. Our partners, Cooper Tires, Subaru, DirtFish and USAC along with the Green Savoree Promotions and Mid-Ohio staff have set the bar very high for seasons to come.”
The first ever event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Course’s new .07-mile rallycross circuit was held last weekend, where reigning ARX Champion Scott Speed took the first-ever series victory for Subaru Motorsports USA on his debut with the team.
Andretti Rallycross’ Tanner Foust also challenged in the event by setting quickest times in qualifying, and Loenbro Motorsports’ pairing of experienced Canadian Steve Arpin and ARX Supercar rookie Travis PeCoy joined Speed on the podium to end a winter of hard work with the team’s Ford Fiesta.
Fans at the venue, and over 266,000 viewers watching the live coverage online, enjoyed frantic action in ARX and the official support class ARX2 throughout the weekend. “The rallycross track at Mid-Ohio has established itself as a marque venue in North America for rallycross racing. Cooper is proud to be the title sponsor of this ARX event, as well as the official tire of the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This initial event was an amazing kick off to the season. Having a semi-permanent race course at Mid-Ohio is the start of a bright future for rallycross racing in the heartland of America,” said Chris Pantani, Cooper Tire’s director of motorsports.
Rounds 2 and 3 of the 2019 ARX Championship take place at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, in Madison, IL for the inaugural ARX of Gateway on July 13-14, 2019. ARX2 will run another double-header event the same weekend, featuring Rounds 3 and 4.
