Arpin Can’t Contain Excitement for ARX Return to Mid-Ohio Oct. 5-6
Canadian Americas Rallycross (ARX) star Steve Arpin believes the updates he has made to his Loenbro Motorsports Ford Fiesta Supercar can place him on top of the podium in the final round of the 2019 ARX season at the Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio Oct. 5-6 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
The Loenbro Motorsports team used a new setup on its two Fiestas for Arpin and Travis PeCoy in the ARX of Austin last weekend, where Arpin finished on the podium.
“We started the day with a completely different setup in our car, we just don’t have the budget to go testing often, so were testing at COTA. After practice, the biggest point of conversation was, do we abort and go back to our regular package, or do we keep on going and try to tune on this,” said the No.00 driver.
‘We think there’s a lot to be hard, we’ve been doing everything we can to try and get a couple of laps back home in Charlotte this week. We learned a lot at COTA with this package and I think it’s going to apply well to the track at Mid-Ohio, we had a fast car there last time, we were second and third on the podium and I think we can do it again.”
Arpin battled for victory in the opening round of the season in the first-ever ARX race held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Course and the Loenbro Motorsports driver is unable to contain his excitement about returning this weekend of the second event in two weekends.
“My in-laws are from the Ohio area, so we have so many people coming up. There was such a good atmosphere, such a good environment last time round, it’s going to be ten times as good this time. I can’t wait to see the people, it’s going to be so good I’ve rented an RV to just put on the side of the racetrack and I’m just going to stay at the racetrack all weekend,” he said, while encouraging fans to head out to the sixth and final round to experience Americas Rallycross first-hand.
“I think the coolest part about this sort of motorsports is that every single ticket gets you access to everything. It is so cool because these cars are so full of technology, there’s so much going on, we’re going out there in such a fast-paced day with so many bursts of excitement, and you can walk up to our trailer, feel the heat radiating off our race cars when our guys are trying to fix them and buttoned back up to go back out and do it all again. It gives you an experience like no other motorsport. I’ve been so fortunate to race so many things from snowmobiles, to bathtubs, to NASCAR, to dirt cars and there’s nothing that comes close to the thrill of this kind of motorsport.”
The Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio will decide the 2019 championship, with Andretti Rallycross’s Tanner Foust 17-points ahead of Subaru Motorsports USA’s Patrik Sandell in the championship standings. Arpin is placed fourth, just seven points behind Sandell.
“It’s going to be chaos, this championship is so close, anything can happen – it’s rallycross,” said Arpin. “It’s going to be wild, it’s an awesome racetrack, there are so many opportunities for passing, with many opportunities to make mistakes that create good opportunities for passing, I can’t wait to see what happens.”
