Tanner Foust and Cole Keatts Lead after Q1
(September 29, 2018) – Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross’ Tanner Foust took a green-to-checkered victory in Q1 at round four of Americas Rallycross (ARX) at the Circuit of The Americas and set the quickest time.
Starting on the pole in race two, Foust took the standard lap at turn one and saved his joker until lap four to take the quickest time in Austin, Texas. Loenbro Hoonigan’s Steve Arpin followed Foust’s Volkswagen Beetle for the full race and was second quickest and GC Kompetition’s Liam Doran, making his ARX return, was third.
ARX Championship leader Scott Speed started P4 in race two and took the holeshot into a lap one joker and was ahead of Doran, but for an as yet unexplained reason, he took a second joker on lap three and finished fourth in the race and ended up fifth overall.
Loenbro Hoonigan’s Ken Block won race one in front of Subaru Rally Team USA’s Patrik Sandell and was fourth quickest. Sandell passed teammate Chris Atkinson in the turn one joker and just finished second to Block in the race. He was sixth, Atkinson was seventh and new Subaru driver Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen was P8 in his first start for the Vermont Sports Car operated team. Xite Racing driver Oliver Bennett was ninth.
In ARX2, Keatts Motorsport’s Cole Keatts beat Championship leader Conner Martell in race two and was quickest. Robbie Buhl’s Alex Keyes won race one and was second and Martell was third. Martell’s DirtFish teammate James Rimmer has been forced to withdraw from the event due to illness.
