Munnich in Fiesta for Canada ARX return

German driver Rene Munnich made his Americas Rallycross (ARX) debut at the Speedmachine Festival at Silverstone in the UK back in May driving his Munnich Motorsport Seat Ibiza RX Supercar, but makes his second ARX start this weekend at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres in Canada in a Ford Fiesta.

The Fiesta Supercar is being run by FIA World Rallycross Championship team STARD, from Austria. “We had no time to prepare our cars in time for this race, and when it was too late to send them by container, and flying them here is expensive, we decided to rent a car,” said Munnich. “I didn’t do a test, but I heard so many good things about how easy it is to drive, so it will not be a problem. I think having Janis (Baumanis, driving for the team in World RX at Trois-Rivieres) in the team with his experience will help for sure. From all the onboards I have seen of the past of this car it looks easy to drive, and if it’s like that it will be good.”

Munnich was fourth fastest in first practice at GP3R. The World RX and FIA European Rallycross Championship regular is looking forward to the first practice session starting tomorrow morning in Canada, where he has raced three times before in World RX. Munnich is also considering a start in the final round of ARX at the Circuit of The Americas in September. “This track is nice, it’s not my favourite track but I like it and I will enjoy it like always,” he said. “I’m 50% likely to race in ARX at COTA [on September 29 – 30], we will see what happens after this weekend.”

Qualifying for ARX begins at 1:40 pm ET on and on
