While the ARX2 Front Runners Continue to Shuffle, Speed Maintains Perfect Score
Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust again split their strategies in Q3 race two at the Dirtfish ARX of COTA with Foust taking his joker on lap one and Speed saving his joker until lap four as the duo again finished one-two.
In Q3 however, Foust set a pair of awesome laps in the middle of the race and was side-by-side with his team mate when Speed exited the joker, but again had to settle for second in the searing heat of Austin, Texas for the second ever ARX event.
Loenbro Hoonigan’s Ken Block initially pressured Speed from turn one of Q3 race two but took his joker on lap two and dropped behind Foust. The former World RX podium finisher was third quickest for the second qualifier in a row to solidify his third position in the overall classification as Sweden’s Patrik Sandell was continued his day of consistency in Subaru Rally Team USA’s leading WRX STI with his third P4 position in the first three qualifiers.
Sandell’s Subaru team mates Chris Atkinson and Travis Pastrana finished one-two in Q3 race one and were fifth and sixth quickest. Atkinson led for the whole race as Pastrana passed Loenbro Hoonigan’s Steve Arpin in a lap one joker. Xite Racing’s Oliver Bennett also passed Arpin at the same point but dropped to fourth after the jump and dirt section on lap one.
Conner Martell became the third different driver in ARX2 to set a quickest time in the first three qualifiers. Martell returned to action after he was forced to miss Q2 with a clutch problem and took the advantage in Q3 race one into turn one from second on the grid. He dominated the race to set a time that wouldn’t be beaten in Q3 race two where Alex Keyes, Christian Brooks and Fraser McConnell battled for the win on the final lap, Keyes taking the victory and was second quickest in his #4 car, McConnell hitting a wall but was fifth and is still top overall.
Remember you can watch all the action from the Dirtfish ARX of COTA on ARX’s Facebook Page and YouTube channel. Still to come is Q4, the semi-finals and final in ARX and ARX2.
