VW Momentum Continues and Scott Anderson Bounces Back in Q2

Americas Rallycross (ARX) Championship leader Tanner Foust made the best launch in Q2 race two at the Dirtfish ARX of COTA and dived straight into the joker lap at turn one in the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Volkswagen Beetle. But it was his team mate Scott Speed who led from the front and again set the quickest time with race victory. The Volkswagen pair were again close at the joker merge on lap four, the same as in Q1, but Speed’s second qualifying victory meant he maintained his position at the top of the overall classification.

Loenbro Hoonigan’s Ken Block won Q2 race one from the front and was third quickest. The Ford Focus RS RX driver took his joker on the final lap to beat a pair of battling Subaru Rally Team USA WRX STIs driven by Australia’s Chris Atkinson ahead of America’s Travis Pastrana. Like Foust would do in race two, Pastrana dived straight into the joker after the start, but Atkinson covered off track position but taking his joker on lap two.

In the third Subaru, Patrik Sandell beat Loenbro Hoonigan’s Steve Arpin to third in Q2 race two and was fourth quickest for the second qualifier in a row. Britain’s Oliver Bennett made a slow start in Q2 race one and had problems with the Mini Cooper S during the race but made it to the finish.

Scott Andersson charged back from a jump start and double joker lap in Q1 of the first ever ARX2 event to win Q2 race one and set the quickest time, ahead of Alex Keyes on track and in the overall classification. Jamaica’s Fraser McConnell won Q2 race two and was third quickest, he remains top after Q2. McConnell came out on top of a three way battle for victory in race two with Christian Brooks and James Rimmer, who traded places on the final lap.
