Foust wins first ever ARX Qualifier at Silverstone
13:45 GMT (May 26, 2018) – Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross’ Tanner Foust produced an awesome drive aboard his Volkswagen Beetle Supercar to win the first ever Qualifier in Americas Rallycross at Silverstone in the UK, as part of the Speedmachine Festival.
Foust took the lead of the first ever ARX race at turn one and led for all four laps to set the quickest time in Q1 as his Volkswagen team mate, Scott Speed also dominated his Q1 race and was second quickest, shy of Foust’s time by just three tenths of a second.
Subaru Rally Team USA’s Chris Atkinson crossed the finish line second to Foust in Q1 race one to be third in the overall Q1 positions, ahead of eight-time Rally America Champion David Higgins. The Subaru drivers followed Foust into the joker lap – the longer route which every driver must take at least one in every ARX race – on lap four, home hero Higgins setting the fourth overall time.
Germany’s Rene Munnich drove his ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport Seat Ibiza to fourth in race one and fifth overall in Q1 with Britain's Liam Doran sixth and France’s Philippe Maloigne seventh.
The third Subaru WRX STI, driven by Sweden’s Patrick Sandell retired on lap three of race two. The former Junior World Rally Champion had contact with Austria’s Timo Scheider in the run to turn one that caused ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport’s Scheider to retire. Great Britain’s Andy Scott also didn’t make it to the finish of Q1, he was rotated at turn one when he was collected by other cars then later retired.
