Foust fastest again in ARX Q2 at Speedmachine

Tanner Foust made it two wins from two Qualifiers in the first ever Americas Rallycross event at Silverstone in the UK, leading race two from lights to flag to top the timesheets in Q2.

The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross driver powered into the lead at the start of Q2 race two, leading team-mate Scott Speed into the first turn. Speed’s pursuit of Foust was brought to an abrupt halt at turn three of the lap one when he was forced into the tyre wall on the inside of the tight corner. Foust left his joker lap – the longer route which every driver must take at least once in every ARX race - until the final lap, to maintain a lead over Germany’s Rene Munnich.

Austria's Timo Scheider produced an awesome drive in Q2 race one to finish second and fourth overall in the times. The two-time DTM champion started the race from fifth position but produced a lightning start to lead into turn one. However, at the hairpin on lap two his bonnet flew up, obscuring his view for over half of the race.

Subaru Rally Team USA’s David Higgins finished behind Munnich in race two to take fifth overall in the Q2 times, while team-mate Chris Atkinson was forced to take two joker laps following a jump start, dropping him behind Higgins in the race and the timesheets. Atkinson recovered to be sixth quickest despite his two jokers, while Sweden’s Patrick Sandell was third quickest after beating Scheider in Q2 race one. Speed recovered from his drama on the opening lap to finish eighth in the times, ahead of LD Motorsports’ Liam Doran. Albatec Racing’s Andy Scott was ninth quickest but France’s Philippe Maloigne didn’t make the start.

Speed quickest in ARX Q3 at Silverstone

Scott Speed prevented team-mate Tanner Foust scoring a hat-trick of Qualifier victories in the first Americas Rallycross round at Silverstone in the UK by being quickest in Q3.

Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross’ Speed won the first race of Q3, leading home Britain’s Liam Doran. Foust continued to show strong pace in the second race but finished exactly half-a-second behind his fellow Volkswagen Beetle driver in the times, good enough for second overall.

Foust still leads the Intermediate Classification heading into Q4 on Sunday, heading a VW one-two with Speed in second. Germany’s Rene Munnich lies third in his Seat Ibiza after setting a time good enough for fifth in Q3 race two. Subaru Rally Team USA’s Patrick Sandell is fourth after chasing Foust to the flag in Q3.

Sandell’s team-mate David Higgins - an eight-time Rally America Champion - was seventh in the Q3 standings, but sits fifth overnight, ahead of another Subaru driver, Chris Atkinson.

Australia’s Atkinson was fighting for the lead of Q3 race one with Speed and Doran at the start when he clipped the tyres on the inside of turn two, sending his Subaru WRX STI onto its roof. Undeterred, Atkinson re-joined the action and dragged his Subaru to the flag to record a time. Atkinson’s determination to finish helped him stay ahead of Austria’s Timo Scheider in the timesheets overnight, the ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport driver fourth in Q3.
Doran was sixth in Q3 and is eighth heading into Q4 tomorrow, ahead of Albatec Racing’s Andy Scott and France’s Phillips Maloigne.
