Ken Block and Oliver Bennett Star in Gymkhana GRiD South Africa

(December 4) – Americas Rallycross (ARX) stars Ken Block and Oliver Bennett joined FIA World Rallycross Champions Johan Kristoffersson and Petter Solberg in putting on a show for the South African crowds at the 2018 edition of Gymkhana GRiD.

Driving the 1400bhp (yes, that’s 800bhp MORE than an ARX Supercar) Mustang Hoonicorn RTR V2 that has featured heavily in the Gymkhana Files series currently being released in episodes on Amazon Prime, Block, who created the Gymkhana concept, made the most noise in Johannesburg, competing in the Smoke and Style competition final. “I’ve loved driving again here in South Africa. During my last run in Smoke and Style I had flames and bits of tyre bouncing off my visor, and I just kept the throttle nailed. That’s what Gymkhana GRiD is all about,” said Block.

For the second year in a row, the All-wheel drive category was won by World RX Champion Johan Kristoffersson, ahead of team mate Solberg and Solberg’s son Oliver, himself a Nordic rallycross Champion in Europe and star of the most recent episode of the Gymkhana Files. “We had an epic father-son head to head; Oliver and Petter Solberg,” said Block. “Oliver is a great kid, and super talented - I really enjoyed working with him in Gymkhana 10 and the Gymkhana files, he’s super talented and for sure got a great future ahead of him. Overall the quality of driving has taken a step up; from all the locals that made the effort to come and race, to having multiple World Champions, it’s just raised the bar.”

Bennett drove the Xite Racing Mini Cooper Supercar he has raced in ARX this season, like Kristoffersson and Petter Solberg just a week after competing in the last round of World RX, but went out of the knock-out competition by Oliver Solberg.
