The Gift That Keeps on Giving #4 | American Arrival

(December 14) – The second round of the inaugural Americas Rallycross (ARX) Championship took the series to Texas and the Circuit of The Americas at Austin for the first event held on American soil – the DirtFish ARX of COTA.

For the first time, ARX Supercars were joined at a raceday by the official support category, ARX2, running single-make, all-wheel drive, rear-motor cars. In Supercar, it was Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross driver Scott Speed who dominated the day to take his first win, but it wasn’t without incident as he and Hoonigan Racing Division driver Ken Block began a rivalry that would run all year. The Volkswagen Beetle and Ford Focus RS RX drivers made contact in both races. Block would finish second to Speed in the final, with Foust third after a difficult day for the round one winner. X Games A-lister Travis Pastrana returned to rallycross with Subaru Rally Team USA in a WRX STI and was fourth.

In ARX2, the single-make class provided gnarly action all day long. DirtFish Motorsport’s Conner Martell passed Keatts Motorsport’s Cole Keatts in the semi and then won the final to take the first ARX2 victory, as a dramatic battle unfolded in the final. Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s Christian Books was second and Keatts third. Jamaica’s Fraser McConnell starred by taking TQ on his debut.
